SQL Log full of “Using ‘dbghelp.dll’ version ‘4.0.5’”

Something recent and one of the things that makes you really question testing at Microsoft SQL Server development team.

Environment:

  1. Major App: SharePoint backend
  2. Database: SQL Server 2012 SP1
  3. OS: Windows 2012 R2

Symptoms:

The SQL server log is getting full and over a period of time can cause real slowdown noticeable by end users and even crash if left for long enough (great isnt it ?)

Solution:

Apply the latest SQL Server 2012 Service Pack which is version 3 at the moment of writing –>> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49996

Or…

If you want to be really really detailed oriented this wonderful gift by some developer at Microsoft was fixed in SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 CU 6 –>> https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2878139
